School Bell Ring

Here is my take on those photos of us in our uniforms. (This layout is also part of the Write.Click.Scrapbook September gallery)

 

The title "Ting a ling a ling, school bell ring" is taken from a West Indian nursery rhyme. We actually had that kind of bell at our schools! I paper pieced the bell accent by using clip art as a template.

I have a pretty clear memory of this day, I remember my shoe laces were very dirty because they had gotten untied and had been dragging on the ground all day. Most of all I remember just being generally excited to start secondary school!

School Days

We thought it was fitting to use these photos of us in our school uniforms for our first September layouts.  These were taken in Grenada in 1979.  Francine (on the left) was 11 and in her first year at secondary school and I was 8 still in primary school.

cutest little girls

Here at last is my take on the birthday party photo. I just love that car, although I have no idea who it belonged to. Mummy didn't have a clue either!

 

Pretty Girls all in a Row

Francine (on the left) and I posing for a photo during one of my birthday parties.  I have to confirm with my mum but I think this was around 1975.  Don't you just love the retro looking car.

I used Glimmer Mist to color the chipboard.  I just love tha stuff.

Day Out

Here's my take on the photos of our day trip. I think our cousin Lesley-Ann was visiting from Grenada, part of the motivation to tour the island. Maybe she was the one taking the photos?

To create the background I sprayed the cardstock with Glimmer Mist, then used a piece of bubble wrap as a stamp with yellow paint.

Treasures

These photos are from around 1981 or 1982 I think and the journal gives you an idea of the story behind them.

Journaling reads:

When we first moved to Barbados to live we would go on these impromptu trips to explore the island. On this particular day we headed up Sam Lord's Castle. The legend of Sam Lord's Castle is that the pirate Sam Lord would hang lanterns in the coconut trees on the beach near his castle to attract ships. Captains would mistake the lanterns for the lights of the capital city Bridgetown and wreck their ships on the reefs. Sam Lord would then plunder the ships taking the treasures.

Cherished Moments

I finally got around to doing my version with this photo (see Francine's in this post).  I absolutely love this photo of the two of us and who can resist that cute kitty in Francine’s arms.  Of course I can’t remember the kitties name seeing that I was probably around three in that photo I think.

Welcome to Sister Scrap!

We had this idea. We're sisters. We are both scrapbookers, but we live in different countries. However we have a lot of the same photos from our childhood growing up in Barbados and Grenada. Why not scrap them "together" online? And so Sister Scrap was born. We hope you'll enjoy taking a look as we document our family history, each in our unique style.

To get started, enjoy this layout I did using the photo on the left of the banner. This is one of my favourite photos of us wearing matching outfits that our Aunt sent us from Canada. This was around 1976. If I remember correctly the outfits were green. Maybe Vernell can confirm or deny!

Edited by Vernell to add: The skirts were green and the tops (bodysuits) were red and white.
