Caught the Sewing Bug

I have caught the sewing bug again!  I have been stock piling various sewing projects on my Pinterest board and this past week I finally made it to the fabric store to get supplies to try a few projects.  I am trying not to put to much pressure on myself and aiming for one project a week.  Here's the first thing that I made.

The idea for this came from these two pins here and here.  I forgot just how satisfying it is to cut fabric and turn it into something functional and pretty.  I think that most of my projects will be home decor and accessories but I may dabble in the odd skirt and top if they are easy to make.

Pinterest Inspired | Crab Cakes

I absolutely love Crab Cakes.  Whenever I see them on the menu when I eat out I just have to get them.  I have always wanted to try making them myself and I finally found a recipe through Pinterest that looked easy and painless to make.  So here are my very first crab cakes.

Of course I had to tweak the recipe to make it my own.  I used ranch dressing instead of mayonnaise, spicy honey mustard instead of dijon, seasoning salt from Barbados instead of Old Bay Seasoning, and my Panko was Italian style. I have to say that they came out wonderful and were very delicious.  Sheldon asked if I was making them again next weekend.  Now if that is not the seal of approval I don't know what is.

Pinterest Inspired | Gift Bag

I have been using Pinterest since about last March or April when my internet enabling sister (just kidding sis) pointed it out to me.  I have gone from 14 boards and 486 pins to 26 boards and 1666 pins in less than a year.  This year I have promised myself that not only will I just add things to my Pinterest boards but that I will actually start using some of the ideas that I have been collecting.  So join me over the course of the year as I share some of my Pinterest projects.

Sheldon's birthday was last Thursday and seeing that I was in bed with the cold from Monday evening until Wednesday I totally forgot to look to see if I had a gift bag to put his gift in.  Then I thought, I am sure that I have something pinned on Pinterest that I can use to whip up a quick one.  You can find the inspiration for my gift bag here, and here is what I came up with.

I used one sheet of scrapbook paper and the handles from a brown paper bag that I had and knew I would not need.

It was the perfect size for his gift and I was also able to get his card to fit in there as well.  Just gotta love Pinterest.

Crafting with Hemp

The crafting bug hit me today but not for scrapbooking or card making.  I was inspired to try out a few of the craft and do-it-yourself ideas that I have been pinning on my Pinterest boards.

This bracelet is from a tutorial that can be found here and you can also buy the kits to make them from her blog.  I did get one of the bracelet kits (makes two bracelets and I got light blue and brown) but realized that with my small wrists and arms that they would easily slip off.  So off I went to Michael's to see if I could find a smaller sized bracelet and I also picked up some bamboo cord as I liked the colors it came in more than the hemp.  Here is the smaller bracelet started in green and I will also make a navy blue one.  I decided not to add the jewels to these. 

And since I was at Michael's I got some really thick hemp cord (180lb weight) to make this mat which was inspired by these coasters  from my Pinterest board.

I used the square of cork that I have been using as a top on a basket that I turned into a table that sits next to my lounging and TV watching chair in my scrap room.  I love how finished it looks now.  Think I may tackle the round cork pot rests that we have in the kitchen next.

I have a few more projects that I will be working on over the next week or two and of course I will share the results as I complete them.
