Sister Sketch Reveal May 2013 | Waterfire Providence

Yes we know we are a week late but better late than never and hey it is still May.  As a reminder this is the sketch that we worked with this month.

And here is my take on it!  I stuck pretty close to the original just eliminating where I placed my title.

Every summer in Providence I look forward to seeing the fires lit during Waterfire.  It is a fun way to spend a summer evening!  There is always lots to do, great food and drinks, and lots to see in addition to the fires.  If you are ever in the area you should check it out.  Here are some close ups of the layout!

I made the tag from some scrap kraft paper and used a using border punch to make it look fancy.

Sister Sketch Reveal April 2013 | Now & Then

April is here and we are still waiting for spring to decide that it is really here to stay!  But while we wait for the days of sandals and tank tops here's what I did with April's sketch below!

While looking through my photos I came across this photo of myself from last Christmas and soon after this one of when we visited Vegas back in 2005.  Apart from a different hair style I realize that I really have not changed that much in the last seven years.

I used an old kit that I have had in my stash for at least three if not more years.  That's the thing I love about kits, you can usually find coordinating stuff in one place to make a few projects. I used a border punch to make the decorative strips with paper.  Here are a few more close ups!

I recently discovered that I can have my Instagram photos printed at Walgreens using the app on my phone.  I gave it a try with these photos of some of the buildings around the area that I work.

Working at the RISD Museum I am surrounded by the beautiful architecture in Providence!

Ordering was such an easy process and they were ready in a matter of hours.  The only draw back was that they were only available in one size so I modified the sketch and used only 4 photos.  Other than changing the photos I pretty much stuck to the sketch.  Here are a few close ups.

Sister Sketch March 2013 | Sketch and Free PDF and Digi Template

Well it is snowing here again in New England.  So much for my hope of spring being here soon.  But while we wait here's the sketch that I came up with for us to do this month.

Sister Sketch Feb 2013 | Just Me!

I hope you had a chance to play with this sketch that I did for this month's sister sketch.

It's been a long time since I have done a layout with just a photo of me but when I came across this one I just knew it would be perfect for this layout.

Notice that I used just one photo and added an embellishment in place of the smaller photo.  The border on the right is a ribbon that I added for more interest. This is what I love about sketches.  They really are just a jumping off point to get your creativity flowing. Here are a couple more close ups!

The journaling reads: This photo was from less than two weeks before my 42nd birthday. Having dessert for lunch with my friends, a holiday treat to ourselves! Dec 2012.

Sister Sketch Jan 2013 | Simba & Asha

Can you believe that we are already into the 4th week of January? The days just seem to be going by. With that being said welcome back for the first of the layouts for Sister Sketch for 2013 based on this sketch by Francine that I posted a couple weeks ago.

And here’s my layout:

I love this sketch and decided to go with the simplicity of it and do a layout showcasing two photos of the kitties with very few embellishments.  I did a 12x12 layout, added some strips of patterned paper, a frame using rubons, and some bling!

Everything used on this layout (well with the exception of the photos) is at least over a year old.  I am trying to use stuff in my stash without buying anything new.  I am enjoying digging through my stuff and rediscovering things I had completely forgotten about and thinking of new and exciting ways to use them.

Francine and I had so much fun doing Sister Sketch last year that we have decided to continue it in 2013.  We are adding a a few twists this year:

1. We will be making and using our very own sketches

2. Francine will convert the sketches into free layered .psd templates for digital and hybrid scrappers

3. We will post the sketch and template 2 weeks before so that others have the chance to play along

Sister Sketch | Halloween @ Barbelle

Happy November Sister Sketch to all.  Isn't it crazy that Christmas is just around the corner.  It seems like yesterday that we did our first sketch.

For November we are using a sketch from the Studio Calico Blog.  The sketch is based on this Amy Tan layout.

Here's my take on it.  My gym had a fun workout/Halloween party and here I am being "scared" by one of the monsters that were in attendance.

I am not usually one to do theme layouts but I had this halloween paper and embellishments that I got in a grab box from Pink Paislee probably about two or three years ago.  I have been using some of the more generic paper on other things but this was the perfect photo to finally use the more Halloween specific things.  I followed the basic layout on the sketch using one photo and layering my paper.  I then added the embellishments and title to finish it up. Here are some close ups.

Notice the bugs on the edge of this paper...love them!

Sister Sketch | This is the Life

And we're back.  Hopefully you did not notice that we missed a month (oops) but we are back with the September edition of Sister Sketch.  This month's sketch is from the Sunday sketch series on the Studio Calico blog and is based on this layout by Nicole Samuels.

Here is what I did with this sketch!

I have had this photo in my to scrap pile for the longest time and it just never seemed to fit any of the layouts I wanted to do.  But as soon as I saw this sketch I knew that this would be the perfect photo for it.  That's the beauty of sketches, they are sometimes the perfect starting point for a layout and also the perfect inspiration for photos that you may have had in your stash for along time.

Here are some close up shots! 

I love the mix of three different type of letters for the title.  This is a great way to use up those ends of alphabets that you may only have enough letters left to spell one or two words.

Sister Sketch | Summer Flowers 2012

I can't believe it is June already and time for another Sister Sketch!  This month our sketch is from Page Maps.

Here is my take on it showing the flowers that I planted this year as well as some beautiful lilies that bloom evey year.

I had originally planned to turn this into a 12 x 12 layout but decided at the last minute to stick to the original size and basic layout of the sketch as it worked really well for my photos.

This flower accent is a cut out from a full photo that did not make it onto the layout but I loved it so much that I had to find a way to use it.
